Clean Beauty Brands for 2019

Clean Beauty Matters - As we gain more insight into ingredients and chemicals used in our beauty products, we can learn more details on what is healthy for our skin and how we can continue to make healthy decisions for our bodies. Because what goes on our skin, gets absorbed into our bodies.

It’s one of my goals as I continue to get older (I just turned 27 in August) to check in on what I’m putting into my body (foods, drinks, medicine) and what I’m putting on my body - lotions, hair products, make up, sunscreen. With sensitive skin and overall lack of knowledge of beauty standards, it’s one of my goals for my 27th year to continue to learn more about what’s in my products and why it matters. Here’s some helpful brands that are working to create healthy products as well as provide ample resources to get to know more about clean beauty and the industry as a whole.

BEAUTY BRANDS TO KNOW

RMS Beauty - A favorite brand for responsibly made makeup products, RMS Beauty is dedicated to sourcing healthy and organic ingredients for our skin as well as being transparent about the why and how they do it. Based on their website, RMS Beauty products are “…free of harmful chemicals, synthetic preservatives, synthetic vitamins, and genetically modified ingredients (GMO) etc”. But with their focus on non-toxic beauty, the brand does not lose the colorful, versatile assortment of makeup and skincare. TRY: Mascara ($28.00)

Indie Lee - I recently came across this brand on Instagram and loved their mission and value surrounding education for beauty ingredients and simple, affordable products in great sizes. Personally, I’ve struggled with purchasing a product and ending up not being able to use it because of sensitivity so these are perfect sizes for test usage and lower financial commitment when trying out new products. And although I haven’t tried their skincare yet, they are definitely on my list to test out for a clean beauty solution!

lilah b. - Another makeup brand that I came across in the last year, lilah b. is dedicated to providing a minimal collection of make up products for your every day wear with traditional color foundation, blushes and lip colors. They believe that “with less, you are more.” Their products are created without gluten, parabens, sulfates, phthalates and synthetic fragrances as well as vegan friendly and animal cruelty free. TRY: Flawless Finish Foundation ($48.00) and Bronzed Beauty Bronzer Duo ($42.00).

J. Hannah - Making beautiful colors of nail polish, J.Hannah has become a fan favorite because of her high quality polishes taking in “the role of subtle color as an element in the considered wardrobe.” All of the brand’s nail polishes are listed as “non-toxic, cruelty free and made in the USA.” TRY: Ghost Ranch Polish ($19.00)

Herbivore Botanicals - This skincare brand has been a popular one for several years, but remains centered on creating simple solution products for skincare and makeup that include thoughtful, natural ingredients. Their products are focused on “an emphasis on organic, high quality, and food-grade ingredients.” TRY: Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist ($32.00)

Beautycounter - Dedicated to transparency around ingredients in both their skincare and makeup, Beautycounter has been helping disrupt the beauty industry in sharing more details behind what actually goes into our products. By launching big campaigns to educate us as consumers, they’ve been able to share about toxic ingredients, and ethics behind production while creating classic makeup and skincare products for all ages. TRY: Sheer Lipstick ($32.00)

Shea Brand - Another personal favorite for their handmade shea butter products including whipped shea butter products, lip balm, hydrosols and CBD lotion. Each product is made with intentionality to help absorb nutrients as well as ensuring all are healthy for our skin. TRY: Raw Organic Shea Butter ($11.00 or $26.00)

OSEA - Recently stumbling across this brand through a recommendation on The Good Trade’s daily newsletter. OSEA is a skincare brand that creates non-toxic products from seaweed, essential oils + more as well as avoiding synthetic chemicals such as parabens, petrochemicals, and sulfates. The brand offers extensive details about their their creation processes with organic seaweed, provide a quiz to help you find the perfect product for you and create an array of products for all needs.
